To preserve and restore St. Josephs One Room School and Chapel at Blackhead, Cape Spear and, when possible to heighten the awareness of the history and genealogy of the community.

Located in Blackhead Village, near Cape Spear, is this beautifully restored one room school and church, originally constructed in 1879. Our friendly guide will show you the school bell that the teacher would ring to summon the children to class and the wooden desks. A wealth of history is stored in the genealogy exhibit which also includes a self guided walking tour. Relax on the bench in the yard. In the spring, a scattered iceberg can be seen in the Bay.
