Conservancy Hornby Island protects the environment around the Salish Sea with our two campaigns: Save Pacific Herring and Trees 4 Tomorrow.
Conservancy Hornby Island (CHI) is a volunteer organization formed to preserve and foster stewardship of the human and natural environment of Hornby Island and adjacent waters. A Constitution and By-laws provide the purpose and guidance to a Board of Directors responsible for the ongoing management of programs.
For five years, Conservancy Hornby Island has been leading the movement to halt the unsustainable herring roe fishery that is exploiting the last viable herring spawn on the west coast. It is time now to get serious about protecting Pacific herring and we want you to part of the conversation. Visit our website to learn more about our efforts.
Conservancy Hornby Island provides a climate change solution to Salish Sea Coastal region residents through the Trees 4 Tomorrow project. In 2020, CHi worked with local communities on Hornby Island, Galiano Island, and Vancouver Island to plant 10,000 trees to help fight climate change. In 2021, we expanded the project to Gabriola Island, Pender Island, and Denman Island and are inviting all residents of the Salish Sea Coastal region to partake in this climate change initiative.
