About CHORUS NIAGARA.

Formed in 1963 as the St.Catharines Symphony Chorus, Chorus Niagara has grown from a modest twenty-four members to become the premier symphonic chorus in the Niagara Region. With over 80 singers, Chorus Niagara draws its membership from throughout the Niagara peninsula and Greater Toronto-Hamilton area.

Chorus Niagara is led by Artistic Director Kathleen Allan, a member of the music faculty at University of Toronto and a guest conductor, commissioned composer and clinician equally comfortable working in early, contemporary and symphonic repertoire. She is joined by Associate Conductor Yuan Chen, a doctoral candidate in Conducting at the University of Toronto and Collaborative Pianist Vlad Solviev, an accomplished solo artist and vocal coach. 

In addition to performing both a diverse blend of traditional and contemporary works, Chorus Niagara supports Canadian music by programming, premiering and commissioning works by Canada’s leading choral composers as well as composers of international renown. Our mandate to engage emerging Canadian soloists has helped launch the careers of wonderful young vocalists including Catherine Robbin, Brett Polegato, Alex Dobson and Measha Brueggergosman.

Choral music education is a priority for Chorus Niagara. The Chorus Niagara Children's Choir provides high quality musical training and mainstage performance opportunities for children ages 5-15. Scholarships for young singers include the Robert Cooper Choral Scholars initiative and the Theresa Pothier Vocal Scholarship, each awarded annually. The Side-by-Side program encourages high school vocalists to engage in Chorus Niagara productions and workshops. 

Chorus Niagara takes pride in being acknowledged for its musical excellence, challenging repertoire, innovative programming and commitment to community and educational outreach.

Did you know? On Nov.13 2010 unsuspecting shoppers got a big surprise while enjoying their lunch. Over 100 chorus members performed in our Christmas Flash Mob performing G.F.Handel's Hallelujah Chorus from Messiah. The flash mob, (produced by Alphabet Photography as a holiday card for their customers) Youtube video has received over 57 million views!
