Living Dances

Living Dances is a collection of some of the most celebrated works by renowned choreographer James Kudelka. The triple-bill features the moving duet, Soudain l’Hiver Dernier (1987), a remount of Half an Hour of Our Time (2008), and the return of the critically acclaimed The Man in Black (2010). Produced and performed by Citadel + Compagnie, the program will run May 8-11 & 15-18, 2024 at The Citadel: Ross Centre for Dance.

Honoured with a Lifetime Artistic Achievement Award at the 2023 Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards, Living Dances pays tribute to Kudelka’s immense contribution to the Canadian dance canon, highlighting three profound works from his contemporary repertoire which have had a marked impact on the trajectory of Citadel + Compagnie, where he was resident choreographer from 2008 – 2020.

With a two-week show run, three rehearsal directors, and two casts totaling 10 dancers (including understudies), Living Dances is not only a celebration of the choreography of James Kudelka, but a considered and timely investment for Citadel + Compagnie in recognition of its growth and success on the cusp of its 25th anniversary season.
