Cold Lake Library builds community through a variety of programs and services using all media in a barrier-free and welcoming environment.
The Cold Lake Public Library (CLPL) builds community through a variety of programs and services. Friendly, knowledgeable staff provide barrier-free access to informational, educational, and recreational resources using all media in a welcoming environment. CLPL serves over 4000 registered members and many unregistered library users, at two branches and at pop-up library locations including Cold Lake First Nations and Elizabeth Metis Settlement. Our primary function is the lending of books and other media to area residents and guests. In addition, we offer a wide range of literacy enhancement activities to the public.
The library facilitates story times, youth activities, book clubs, a manga and anime club, meeting space, and Summer Reading Programs. There are 10 community access computers and free Wi-Fi. Library users can access our Reading Garden where they can help themselves to the berries and vegetables we grow and in the winter months can borrow Snow Shoes in many sizes. We host author visits, a 24-hour comic day, and band concerts. Our facilities are used by outside agencies for art and music lessons, many different group meetings, ESL classes, and local school tutors.
Cold Lake Public Library is much more than a place to borrow books, Many people that use the library do not even have memberships; they come to use the public computers, participate in our programming, receive tutoring instructions, sit and read, or to hang out. All the enhancement projects we enter into serve to create a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for all community members. The library is open 6 days a week and includes a couple evenings.
