About COMMUNITY LIVING YORK SOUTH
The “community living” movement began in 1954 with a visionary group of parents who sought alternatives to placing their children in an institution. Using the limited resources of the time, these families strove to start their own school and develop services for their sons and daughters ensuring they would have the best quality of life.
This founding spirit carries on with the efforts of today’s courageous parents who continue to defy the status quo in seeking the best possible quality of life for their children.
Community Living York South is a not-for-profit organisation that provides support services to children, youth, adults and seniors who have an intellectual disability and live in Southern York Region. Support is also provided to the families of those we support. We support people in directing their own lives and in promoting partnerships, opportunities, well-being, freedom and contributions in their community.
