Coastal Sound’s mission is to transform lives and build community through choral music.

What began more than 35 years ago as the Coquitlam School District Honour Choir, has grown to be Coastal Sound Music, a non-profit charitable organization and an essential part of the cultural fabric in the Tri-Cities. 

Based at Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam, Coastal Sound Music offers holistic choral music education for everyone ages 4 to adult, through its six singing groups.

Over the years, the mission and values of Coastal Sound Music Academy have been unwavering: to transform lives and build community through choral music and group singing. Singers are challenged through the pursuit of choral music artistry and high quality music education, while at the same time nurtured to be kind, caring, compassionate and committed humans. 

Coastal Sound supports singers and families through its Bursary program, so that financial hardship is not a barrier to access the opportunities provided. 

The Music Commissioning Fund ensures that Canadian composers can be supported while exciting, beautiful new music is created for Coastal Sound groups, ultimately adding more quality Canadian music to the choral canon internationally.

Artistic Director Diana Clark is passionate about the organization. “It feels like our mission is more important than ever: to build a sense of community and connection when there are so many isolating forces pulling humans apart from one another. No matter your background or age, everyone needs to feel emotionally connected, seen, understood and worthy.”
