Mission Statement:  Our mission is to enhance the lives of children, adolescents and families by providing hope, education, skills and support.

Columbus Bosco Homes operates three programs in partnership with Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools - The Family Learning Centres Program;  The Farm School Program and The Substance Abuse Awareness Program.

Family Learning Centres Program

The Family Learning Centres Program (Parent and Tot) is a free program for parents, and children from birth to six years of age that:

  • encourages and supports parents as their child’s first and most important teacher

  • emphasizes learning through family literacy and play

  • provides opportunities for parents to focus on positive parenting through conversations with other parents

  • offers a means for families to meet others and build upon their community and capacity

  • provides an opportunity for parents to learn new parenting skills

Farm School Program

The Farm School Program is located approximately 20 kilometres from Saskatoon. It is a referral-based high school program designed to meet the individual needs of “at-risk” students. The Farm School Program serves mainly grades 9-11 students and offers four regular credits.

Benefits of the program include:

• smaller class sizes with a 10-1 student-teacher ratio, with additional staff support to meet individual needs

• the opportunity for “at-risk” students to obtain credits without losing time out of school

• transportation to and from school

• a supervised school day in a calm, structured environment

• a home setting in a rural environment where the students are involved in a peaceful, positive learning environment

• students having the opportunity to learn life skills through: landscaping, gardening, operating and repairing equipment and tools, caring for animals, photography, cooking and fine arts skills

Substance Abuse Awareness Program

The Substance Abuse Awareness Program, offered at the Farm School, is a referral program for Greater Saskatoon Catholic high school students which:

• offers a two-week education program that focuses on substance abuse

• allows students to continue their academic classes during the two weeks, with support and cooperation from their home schools and Farm School staff

• provides students with intensive education, up-to-date materials and support with substance abuse issues

• offers one-on-one and group support, including peer counselling

• allows students to connect with other students who are having similar challenges

• provides a forum for presentations of information, discussing and sharing
