Mission: The Community Social Planning Council leads social, economic and environmental planning in BC's Capital Region. We engage community members and organizations, businesses and government to research social issues and create sustainable solutions.
Organization Background: The Community Social Planning Council has been in existence since 1936 as a non-profit, non-partisan charitable social planning Society. It was then that the first social planning agency in the Victoria region was formed to address the needs of the poor. The Council also served as the incubator for a number of well-established organizations in this region, including the United Way of Greater Victoria, Volunteer Victoria and the Bridges for Women Society. Since its inception, the Council has responded in a variety of ways to addressing social issues, alleviating poverty and promoting social justice.
The Community Social Planning Council contributes to the vision of a socially sustainable region by undertaking relevant research, insightful analysis and solution-oriented engagement. A key function of the Community Social Planning Council is to be a conduit for connecting the region to quality, reliable information and insightful analysis on topics that can build stronger connections between people and stronger communities.
About Our Charity
Your annual membership and donation dollars help ensure that our organization is able to provide services (such as the BC Transit Ticket Assistance Program), resources, (such as the Living Wage and Affordability Index), and leadership (such as our work in food security) that we have brought to this community for many years. You can also choose to direct your donation toward the development of our new Community Investment Fund for affordable housing and community enterprise in the Capital Region.
Your financial contributions support new ways of working together to create a vibrant and sustainable community and to support new initiatives to tackle the many challenges to the quality of life for people in the region.
Key priority areas of work that your membership and donation dollars will support in the coming year are:
