Kus-kus-sum - Unpave Paradise (Restoration Phase)

We are delighted to announce that we have raised the funds to purchase the Kus-kus-sum property and are in the process of restoring it! All donations made now go towards earth moving, planting and removing the steel wall that isolates the site from the river. Donate now and watch Kus-kus-sum transform from an eco-liability to an eco-asset.

The Kus-kus-sum site was formerly know as Field's Sawmill and was used as a sawmill from the 1940's to around 2004. It was closed and left as a barren concrete parking lot in 2006. The site is in the heart of our beautiful Comox Valley along an important waterway that a major salmon highway linking upper watershed spawning habitat to the Ocean. It is at the confluence of the river and the K'ómoks Estuary. In addition to this, there is evidence that it may have been traditional tree burial grounds for those living in the Kus-kus-sum village pre-settlement. In 2017, Project Watershed started a campaign to purchase the property from Interfor Corporation. We successful completed the purchase in November 2020.
