Discipleship for Vancouver: Connecting God's Work with Ours
I'm a Vancouverite. "How do I imitate Jesus within the context and capacities that I've been given?" and "How do I continually connect my work with his in a city where its people continuously change and cultures intersect everyday?
Company of Disciples provides discipleship specifically for Vancouverites. Discipleship that begins by exploring and critiquing the basic tenets, foundations and scriptures of Christianity and then testing them in safe places of conversation with those who may differ in their beliefs and opinions. Conversations that engage the Christian faith with current issues and life's complexities. If Jesus is working in Vancouver, then to imitate him requires a type of discipleship that is contemporary, fluid and in constant dialogue between faith and what is continually being revealed.
I hope that you, your colleagues, church and/or peer group share the same passion to partner with me by becoming a donor. It is expensive to live and operate here. In order for me to stay in Vancouver and remain focused on this ministry, I need to raise enough money to support myself and my family without requiring a second job. And Lord willing, with enough funds I can start recruiting a paid staff of like-minded individuals so that we can grow the ministry to better serve our city and the rest of the lower mainland. Please support discipleship that Vancouver desires. Let's imitate Jesus well!
Yours Sincerely,
Jonathan Chan
Our Desire
A community of business and working professionals who desire safe places to engage in astute and informative conversations on the Christian faith and its relevance to contemporary issues that our communities face everyday since “a religion that takes no account of practical affairs and does not help to solve them is no religion.” – Quote from Mahatma Gandhi
Our Purpose
We strive to bridge the unsatisfied gap between the knowledge and relevance of the Christian faith by participating “in a severe contest between intelligence, which presses forward, and an unworthy, timid ignorance obstructing our progress.” – Quote from James Wilson, founder of The Economist.
Our Mission
By providing SEEDS (an acronym for Seed Planting with Events, Exploring in PODs, Equipping with Bible Studies and Seminars, Developing with Executive Theological Education and Second Wind) to the business and professional communities, there is a safe place for everyone to congregate with their peers, debate on each other’s ideas and beliefs, critique with each other’s propositions and educate one another in hopes of connecting God’s work with ours.
