About Computing for Humanity
Computing for Humanity (CFH) is a Canadian registered charity founded in 2015 to democratize access to advanced computing for researchers. We believe computation should be a public good, not a privilege reserved for elite institutions or corporations.
CFH has supported research over the years through various programs, including:
- Myresearchcloud.ca: This is Canada’s first nonprofit research cloud that provides virtual machines and storage, which are essential components for research in the digital era.
- Contributed Systems: This initiative redeploys donated servers to universities for research purposes, thereby expanding access and diverting over 50 tons of electronic waste.
- Opportunistic Workloads: CFH donates more than 10 million CPU/GPU hours annually to global projects focused on important issues such as curing diseases, studying proteins, and understanding climate change, among other fields of research.
