To create a culture of support and engagement in diabetes self-management through peer-based experiential diabetes education, physical activity, and outdoor adventure pursuits.
Connected in Motion redefines normal for adults living with Type 1 Diabetes.
Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune disease that 300,000 people in Canada, 85% of which are adults. But many of those people are managing their illness on their own. They don’t know anyone else with diabetes, and unlike for children, there are few supports outside the healthcare system.
Why does that matter? Imagine having no one around you with a shared life experience. No one who understands injections, medical jargon, or the constant work of monitoring your blood sugar levels.
Now imagine having a community around you. A community for asking questions, getting support, and sharing information about lifestyle and Type 1 diabetes management. A community that understands your needs and comfort zones, but helps you push beyond your limits to live a more active lifestyle.
Connected in Motion is a charity for people living with Type 1 Diabetes that shares a vision: To create a culture of support and engagement in diabetes self-management through peer-based experiential diabetes education, physical activity, and outdoor adventure pursuits.
We are the only organization in Canada dedicated to supporting adults living with Type 1 Diabetes. We host outdoor adventure weekends for adults of all activity levels that empower people living with Type 1 Diabetes to safely incorporate healthy living and exercise into their lives.
We’re a complement to traditional clinic support. By creating a community that is motivating, supporting and inspiring individuals to take charge of their health today, we are helping to improve the quality of life for people with diabetes now and tomorrow.
