about

CONNECTIONS PLACE:   A Place to Get Back Into Life!

We are a community centre centrally located near Uptown (3375 Oak Street, Victoria, BC) Our goal is to guide people, aged 18 and over,  struggling with a mental illness to social inclusion by following the International Standards of Clubhouse International   https://clubhouse-intl.org/

Much more than simply a program or social service, we are a community of people who are working together to further their personal and common goals.

Our doors opened in March 2019 and as of January 2020 we have 117 members with 40 members in the application process. We have proven the need for this evidence based model of psychosocial rehabilitation in the Greater Victoria Area.  The Clubhouse Model is recognized by SAMSHA (Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration) in the US.

The 37 International Standards ensure that members needs are met in education, employment, social and housing.  We are working hard to find sustainable funding so that all of the standards can be met. Currently we are not in a position to provide housing assistance.

We became a non-profit organization in 2016 and held many public events to spread the word and the need for a Clubhouse International. In April of 2018 we received our charitable status.

The first Clubhouse 'Fountain House' has roots in New York City in 1948 - due to it's success there are over 330 Clubhouse Models throughout the World!  Canada has 19 Clubhouse Models - most major city has one.

OUR VISION:

Our  Clubhouse is a vibrant, innovative and collaborative space dedicated to creating opportunity and purpose for those with mental health challenges. The Clubhouse is dedicated to nurturing respect, equality and dignity for all.

OUR MISSION:

To provide people whose lives have been disrupted by mental illness the opportunity to recover meaningful and productive lives through reintegration within the workplace and the community.

A Message from the Board of Directors of Connections Place:

“While tents and homelessness are visible signs of mental illness, you cannot see those who are isolating, not going to school, couch surfing, unemployed, in hospital, in jail or those who harm themselves or take their own life. These people are often invisible and do not have a voice. This is why we are here".
