ABOUT COPTIC ORPHANS SUPPORT ASSOCIATION: Coptic Orphans is an award-winning international Christian development organization that has transformed the lives of over 100,000 children in Egypt since 1988. We believe that through long-term programs that focus on education, we can affect the vicious cycle of poverty. Coptic Orphans partners with the Church in dioceses throughout Egypt. Our staff members work closely with each local bishop, who also guides in areas of local need and nominates new volunteers. Coptic Orphans focuses on the children most likely to face the deadly combination of poverty and social injustice, but who have the greatest potential to change their lives and the lives of others.Through donors and a network of hundreds of village-based volunteers, churches, and organizations, Coptic Orphans' Not Alone program helps children stay in school (and stay with their families) until we have unlocked their full potential. Coptic Orphans makes a covenant with families of orphans in Egypt to stay with a child until the end of their highest education, as long as they also work hard to make full use of every possible educational opportunity they have. His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, who blessed us by appearing in person at our 25th anniversary celebration in Brampton on Sept. 28, 2014, told our staff and supporters: "Bravo for your service. And I'm not sure who's happier — you, or the children you serve." As Coptic Orphans goes forward into our next quarter-century of service, we are striving to live up to His Holiness' words.Coptic Orphans’ sound fiscal management and commitment to transparency and accountability have earned the highest 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, North America’s largest independent charity evaluator, for 9 consecutive years.In addition, Coptic Orphans is a Better Business Bureau (BBB) accredited charity that meets all 20 of the BBB Wise Giving Alliance's "Standards for Charity Accountability. "For every dollar you donate, we use only 13 cents for fundraising and 4 cents for management and administration. As part of our commitment to accountability, 83 cents goes directly to serving the children in Egypt. Because Coptic Orphans places the highest value in serving the children despite any crisis that might strike Egypt or the countries of the Coptic diaspora, we maintain a nearly 12-month reserve of operating expenses (listed under “Net Assets”). This ensures we will be there for the children no matter what.
