Corporations for Community Connections (CFCC) was born in 2010. It was started by three Siemens employees with a shared passion for technology and social responsibility. CFCC began with 6 volunteers working on 25 laptops over a cold December weekend. Seven years later, the program has become a robust process, engaging hundreds of volunteers in one day workshops, refurbishing up to 10 laptops per person, without technical skills or computer experience. Formally established in 2014 as a registered charity, the founders sought to create a program that diverts decommissioned corporate computers from landfills and recyclers, to schools and people in need. CFCC's process is socially, environmentally and financially responsible. A founding principle was that CFCC's laptops would always be distributed at no cost to the recipients. Since the charities inception, thousands of computers have been donated to worthy individuals, families, schools and organizations across Canada, Nepal and Central America.
