The Cowichan Neighbourhood House (www.CNHA.ca) is a volunteer-run community resource centre providing free educational and recreational activities for families, youth, seniors and others, as well as daily food and resources to those in need. All regular activities are free of charge, including workshops & classes (e.g., First Aid & BC Food Safe certifications)
Our philosophy is summarized in our motto -- “neighbours helping neighbours.” We treat participants not as “clients”, but as fellow “neighbours”.
What We Do
We run many free events and activities, but our regular programs include: daily Youth drop-in, daily Adult drop in, daily free food (over 2000lbs/month through Zero Food Waste), Youth Cooking, Free Store (clothing, food, household supplies, etc), free workshops (including First Aid and BC Food Safe certification), healthy food classes, literacy & tutoring, daily soup & bun, and special cultural activities for youth & families.
We are run on volunteers and log roughly 9,000 volunteer hours a year. We also collaborate with over 20 partner organizations to address various community needs.

What People Are Saying
"My Guardian Angels. I arrived in Chemainus broke, homeless and very depressed. The folks at CNHA got me clothing, shelter, food and helped me find a job. That’s why I call them my guardian angels as they were the ones who took the time to listen to me and give me a helping hand. "
