The CCFS has officially launched our 6th major land acquisition and has begun work to secure a parcel we’re calling Middle Earth from private forest manager Manulife Investment Management. This area to the east and south of the existing Cumberland Community Forest park lands. This 261-acre parcel includes a beautiful, forested wetland corridor that offers refuge for species big and small. This corridor flows through the landscape to the Trent River.
This area is home to trails including Round Out, Outfox, Sapsucker, Rapture Genesis, and Resurrection. The Middle Earth project is part of our broader vision of a resilient ecological corridor that spans both the Trent and Puntledge Watersheds, protects sensitive ecosystems, watersheds, and species at risk; restores ecological function; engages stewardship community; and provides access to nature for all ages and abilities.
The CCFS is starting this purchase with a strong foundation thanks to the incredible support of our donors and partners. We will be working to match those funds over the next 10 months will the goal of closing on this purchase by March 31st 2026. Become part of the amazing legacy of land protection in the Village of Cumberland!
