Save lives and invest in a child's future - free of domestic violence.
While social distancing and isolation measures were meant to keep us all safe, it also concealed the evidence of increasing domestic violence across Canada. Only when the violence escalates to femicide are we aware of the violence within the homes in our community.
For some women, increased stress and pressures at home in the past several years have been traumatic, dangerous, even deadly.
At Discovery House – with your support – we are facing the national domestic violence crisis head on. We deliver much-needed resources and support to women and children fleeing domestic violence.
It is the perfect storm. Housing costs have increased and many landlords would prefer not to house a single mother, especially without the security of a full time job. For many women, it feels like there’s nowhere to go. Add the stress of inflation and economic insecurity to the pre-existing abusive behaviours, and the result is the rising violence rates across the country. Staying home just isn’t safe.
In Canada, a woman is killed by a current or former intimate partner every 6 days.
Discovery House provides transitional housing complete with furnishing, necessities, and a caring community. The wrap-around support includes child development programs, parenting programs, and access to mental health clinicians. Approximately 600 women and children escaping domestic violence each year find the safety net they need to heal from their trauma, rebuild their lives, and achieve self-sufficiency at Discovery House – breaking the cycle of domestic violence.
We need your help now, more than ever.
Join Discovery House in leading the charge to save the lives of women and children fleeing from danger and violence. As a valued donor and partner, please give.
