about

Our Mission

Distress Centre Halton (an amalgamation of our three locations - Oakville, Georgetown and Burlington) supports people in our community and surrounding areas, to better cope with crisis, loneliness, and emotional stress. We provide a free, confidential, listening, befriending, crisis prevention and crisis intervention telephone service for people in Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Georgetown, Acton, Hamilton, and surrounding areas in the Greater Halton Region.  We are ALL community.

Our service is a caring, compassionate, emotional support telephone service for anyone who is feeling anxious, lonely, depressed or is in crisis. Our trained volunteers provide crisis intervention and ongoing crisis prevention, befriending and information and referrals as needed.

DISTRESS CENTRE HALTON is a registered charity, incorporated and founded in 1974. (GEORGETOWN two year earlier in 1972!)  The agency is unique that it uses volunteers in front-line social work telephone calls, and in its innovative approach to helping with social problems.
