FESTIVAL MANDATE
The Sechelt Arts Festival provides accessible arts programming to all residents of the District of Sechelt and area, showcasing local talent to residents and visitors in a professionally produced multi-day event. The Festival supports and encourages Sunshine Coast artists by providing opportunities for collaboration among the multi-talented coast arts community and embraces all art forms, including dance, music, theatre, heritage, and the visual arts. Each year over one hundred performers, artists, and many volunteers participate in the planning and implementation of the festival. The festival records attendance of over 4,000 people of all ages. In addition, hundreds of coast students attend our school shows and tour the curated art and heritage exhibits.
FESTIVAL OBJECTIVES
- To expose our community to innovative and diverse artistic expressions
- To encourage artists to deepen, reflect, and challenge their art practices
- To encourage inter-disciplinary projects between various artistic disciplines
- To encourage a collaborative dialogue and learning experience between artists and our indigenous cultures
- To include and encourage emerging artists
