As we move into the ninth year of the war in Syria, civilians continue to bear the brunt of the conflict. Due to the fighting, over 11.7 million Syrians are in need. Of those in need, over half – or 6.5 million – are food insecure. The decreasing availability of food and rising costs have led many families to reduce the number of meals per day and the amount of food consumed. In conflict zones, malnutrition reduces a person’s ability to fight off deadly waterborne diseases.

GlobalMedic has been supporting Syrians displaced since 2014. Since July 2018, GlobalMedic has sent 25 shipments of humanitarian aid to support Syrians displaced by the ongoing war. These shipments have included:

• 797,460 Emergency Meals, most of which were designed by Syrian refugee chefs specifically to be a nutritious and familiar meal to Syrians, and were packed by GlobalMedic volunteers in Toronto.
• 21,915 Family Emergency Kits containing a water purification solution, bars of soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste. Some kits contain additional items such as sachets of oral rehydration salts, solar lights or Lucky Iron Fish (a cooking tool to improve iron supplementation).
• 4,232 cases of diapers.
• Medical supplies such as antibiotics, gloves, masks, gowns, bandages, syringes, orthopedic supports, etc.
