Douglas Park is an inner city Community school which encourages members of our community to get involved and create an inclusive space for children to grow and learn. The Douglas Park Community School Society was formed in 1999 to offset the fact that this school has a varied population of immigrants, low income and struggling families; it did not have a normal PAC or Parent Advisory Council that other schools have. The Society filled in PAC duties for over a decade where there was no active team fundraising to assist with the cost of extracurricular activities and help fund field trips families couldn’t afford. The society also fundraises throughout the year to enhance the classroom experience by giving funds at beginning of the year to pay for materials to enrich the learning of their students. The Society has also made it their mission to identify learning disabilities in children by getting them assessed for learning difficulties early and create an education plan that can be carried out through the child’s education to graduation.

We believe they create a better sense of community and a welcoming presence in our neighbourhood.
