DOXA brings together audiences, filmmakers and diverse cultural communities through the presentation of outstanding documentary work from around the globe. 

Through screenings, panel discussions, workshops and educational initiatives, DOXA facilitates a cinema culture that is curious, inventive and bold. 

The festival was established in 2000 by the Documentary Media Society, and our mission then, as it is now, is to support a better understanding of the complexity of our times through engaging the public in documentary media as an art form. DOXA has grown into Western Canada’s largest documentary film festival through the support of audience members and donors like you. 

When you donate to DOXA, your funds directly support:

• Presenting documentary programming that illuminates the intersections of social, economic and environmental justice, and a diversity of perspectives not always represented in mainstream media;
• Providing opportunities for youth audiences to gain critical media literacy skills through our Rated Y for Youth program;
• Championing the professional development of Canadian filmmakers through DOXA Industry networking and skill-sharing events;
• Allowing DOXA to present a number of free events and discounted tickets for seniors and students.

Additionally, your donation to the Holdstock Fund for Documentary Engagement directly funds the travel expenses of visiting filmmakers and special guests from across Canada and around the world. Initially created through the generosity of Roger Holdstock, this fund facilitates the presence of more filmmakers at in-person screenings and panels, and helps embolden the community around the festival.
