Connecting people to nature on Earth Day and every day.

Earth Day Canada inspires and supports people across Canada to connect with nature and build resilient communities.

About Earth Day Canada…

Founded in 1990, Earth Day Canada is a national charity that inspires and supports people across the country to connect with nature and build resilient communities. We lead an annual Earth Day campaign in conjunction with free, year-round, award-winning programs that get people of all ages outside, interacting with the natural environment — this, in turn, fosters an intrinsically motivated, enduring commitment to stewardship and conservation.

EDC works closely with school-aged children and youth through our renowned EcoKids program, gets kids outside and engaged in self-directed, unstructured outdoor play through our new EarthPLAY program, and recognizes via our Hometown Heroes Awards those who are leading the way in making our planet healthier. We engage diverse communities in the environmental NGO sector with our Tapestry program and help our corporate partners achieve their sustainability goals with our growing employee engagement platform.

The objective of EarthPLAY is to put self-directed outdoor play back into the lives of children as a natural part of their day-to-day lives. EarthPLAY encompasses a broad spectrum of projects that address play provision in schools, parks, streets and diverse communities, highlighting the importance of freely chosen outdoor play as a vital determinant of health and social wellbeing. We thank our core sponsor, TD Friends of the Environment Fund, for supporting the integration of EarthPLAY into Earth Day Canada.

The EcoKids Program provides thousands of schools and teachers with free, curriculum-based environmental education resources that are designed to inspire children to become life-long environmental stewards. EcoKids supports learning through topical resources, innovative campaigns and educational games and activities. It encourages children to form their own opinions, make decisions, get involved and understand the impact their actions have on the environment.

Hometown Heroes

The Hometown Heroes Award Program has become one of Canada's most prestigious environmental awards. Established in 2004, the program recognizes and celebrates environmental leaders, groups and small businesses who foster meaningful long-term community awareness and action. To date, Earth Day Canada and its partners have recognized 127 Hometown Heroes across Canada.

Earth Day Canada's diversity and inclusion program has two primary goals: to move the environmental agenda forward within diverse communities and to advance inclusivity in the environmental sector. Tapestry consists of inter-linked elements which include supporting the diversification of environmental sector boards, diverse community leadership development, and organizational capacity building and communications.
