Beyond Food Program

Your Donation Helps remove the barriers to employment and independence

Since opening its doors in mid-November 2017, Beyond Food, Edmonton Food Bank’s new employment readiness and support centre, has seen a wide variety of people looking for help.

Located at the Annex, 11434 – 120 Street, two doors south of the main food bank, the Beyond Food Program offers employment readiness, English and Math upgrading, personal counselling, money management, work experience and housing information in a coordinated service delivery model that brings together major non-profits in the city under one roof.

“Beyond Food is a mirror of Edmonton’s economy,” said Marjorie Bencz, Executive Director for Edmonton’s Food Bank. “We see people in economic and emotional distress.”

The impetus for Beyond Food was a 2015 Food Bank client survey that showed 70% of respondents were not connected to any other support service in the city. It got the Food Bank thinking about how it could address the gap.

With the help of our partner agencies Bissell Centre, The Learning Centre, Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers, Canadian Mental Health Association, Habitat for Humanity Edmonton and the City of Edmonton we are creating a path forward to help find solutions to the causes of hunger through education, support and training.
