Landour Community Hospital is located in Mussoorie, in the state of Uttarakhand in North India. Its vision is for the transformation of communities with a focus on the poor and the marginalized, through holistic appropriate health care, training, and community development, in the name and spirit of Jesus Christ. Landour Community Hospital is a community-based hospital which provides quality health care at an affordable cost while maintaining ethical standards. The effort to continue to keep costs affordable to the poor makes it difficult to invest in large capital expenses of residential infrastructure maintenance as the hospital’s daily income is mainly allocated for operational expenses. A financial donation towards these requirements will benefit the patients by ensuring their expenses are kept low.
Improvement of Residential Infrastructure
Landour Community Hospital and its associated Community Health Projects have a total of 72 staff. 96% of them stay in the residences provided by the hospital. Most of these residential buildings are bungalows that are over 50 years old. These have been partitioned over the years to accommodate more staff. These have also not had regular maintenance due to the fluctuating financial circumstances of the hospital.
Shalom Niwas, one of the residential buildings located closest to the hospital, which once housed four families, had to be evacuated due to significant disrepair and leaks. The building has been assessed by experts who recommended that it would require plastering of the walls, replacement of the wooden structures and replacement of the entire roof structure. A financial evaluation of the repairs concluded an estimate of $37,200.
