Tanner’s Story

Tanner’s journey with epilepsy began at a young age. His very first tonic clonic seizure occurred at four months old due to a fever, so we thought this was just a febrile seizure. But then when Tanner was 13 months old, he had another seizure, but there was no reason why he had this seizure. So of course, we got on the role with getting him to a neurologist and everything like that.

Tanner was getting five day video EEG’s in Toronto Sick Kids. When they did the EEG they noticed that it was all over Tanner’s brain known as generalized epilepsy. So there was no way that Tanner could have epileptic surgery. He was not a candidate. So as a mother, I went and got a second opinion to London Victoria Hospital. They again did a five day video EEG and again I was told the exact same thing. But what they wanted to do was wean Tanner off one medication that was doing good to control the big seizures, but was not controlling his petite mal seizures that he was having constantly, so they wanted to put him on a medication that would control both seizures.

But unfortunately, London Victoria Hospital did it in a two week span to wean him off the one medication, which was too quickly, and unfortunately Tanner’s body did not go well and he ended up passing away when we started the second week of the weaning off his medication.

Tanner was a bright happy child no matter what he went through. He always lit up the room and always made everyone laugh. He was just so comical and funny. We miss him every day. 💔❤️

This page is created as an ongoing way to honour Tanner’s memory and support epilepsy awareness throughout the year.

While the annual Epilepsy Awareness Baseball Tournament is the main community event held each year, we understand that not everyone is able to attend in person. This page allows friends, family, and supporters to contribute at any time of year, whether in place of attending the tournament or in addition to it.

All donations help continue the mission of raising awareness for epilepsy and supporting families impacted by it, while also keeping Tanner’s memory present and meaningful every day.

This page is simply another way to stand behind what the tournament represents, love, remembrance, and community, without taking away from the incredible work done by Lisa and Jeff Wheeler and everyone involved in hosting the event each year.
