When we were established, the Windsor-Essex County Pelee Island region had only 3.5% natural areas coverage. The Foundation has supported the Essex Region Conservation Authority in planting more than 6 million trees, bringing natural areas coverage to 8.5%. Our target is 12% for sustainability. As well, the idea of a region connected by trails was a distant dream. Fast forward to October 14, 2017 when the Foundation and its partners opened the Rotary (1918) Centennial Hub. Following four decades of developing over 80 kilometres of greenway trails and working with municipal partners to connect systems across the region, this 3 kilometre connector brings that dream to a reality. These are just a sampling of the successes we have achieved, together with our donors, over the past four decades.
