Young people in Canada are facing a quiet crisis. Despite a population that is 86% urban and laying claim to 20% of the Earth’s wild forests and 24% of its wetlands, Canada’s youth are increasingly disconnected from social and natural communities. While we celebrate our image of a country filled with natural wonder and dynamic cities, nearly a third of 18 to 24-year-olds experience loneliness and isolation, disconnected from the magic of nature. Our mission is to change that. The Environmental Youth Alliance works to ensure that youth in BC’s Lower Mainland maintain a connection to their environment and their community while building the skills to become sustainability champions and environmental leaders. We believe in creating solutions that strengthen the social fabric and wellbeing of our communities while simultaneously building a greener future.
