Famous PEOPLE Players

about

Famous PEOPLE Players (FPP) is a Canadian Treasure founded in 1974 by Diane Dupuy CM. A Member of the Order of Canada

During this era in history, people with mental disabilities were segregated from society.  Diane, through volunteering at the Orillia institution witnessed the treatment of people living in a locked down depressing environment.  She thought if they were integrated into society they would normalize themselves. Being with other people, they would learn life skills and proper behavior. This is why she formed a black light theatre company called Famous PEOPLE Players. Life size puppets of Famous PEOPLE were painted in bright fluorescent colors that glowed in the dark. The players were dressed in black from head to toe, so they could not be seen. It was these hidden players, with their spellbinding performances that brought integration to the forefront of the world for people with people with disabilities.

They enchanted audiences from Las Vegas to Broadway and winning rave reviews around the world especially in countries where people were still segregated and hidden from society. They never forgot their roots as they continue to give benefit performances to help many other worthwhile charities. This is not about reaching 20 people, it is about reaching 200,000 people.  Today you can visit them at their award winning Dine & Dream Theater in Toronto which opened in 1994. Famous PEOPLE Players Education Centre is excited to introduce our “Stars of Tomorrow Program”

Our “out of the box” Theatre classroom is for students who tend to fall between the cracks of the regular school system. It is available full-time, part-time, as a 10-week high school placement and for school groups coming to see our shows. Schools specializing in SHSM (Specialized High School Majors) and Special Needs refer students for workshops based in the different aspects of the “Stars of Tomorrow” multifaceted education program, from mounting productions, learning culinary arts, technical theatre, visual effects and arts administration with applied math and English intertwined. Entrepreneurship and Social Skills are integrated into the program, setting students up for success in an efficient, fun, versatile and inspiring manner, all to fit into society. “The Stars of Tomorrow” helps students expand their limits, dream big and discover who they truly are. “The Stars of Tomorrow” encompasses, at its core, everything…

FPP prides themselves on working without government operating grants. They count on sponsors and foundations to keep the dream alive.

By becoming a $20.00 monthly donor or more, you will  receive a “Star on the Wall” in our theatre. We would love for you to come and Experience the Magic with us.

Four Directors on the board received the Governor General Caring Canadian Citizen award and the founder Diane Dupuy is a member of the Order of Canada. Famous PEOPLE Players also received the Lieutenant Governor Award for Private sector support. This along with many other accolades, have been conferred on them.

It is where special happens ….and it can happen wherever you are.
