Farm Animal Rescue and Rehoming Movement (FARRM)

about

Farm Animal Rescue and Rehoming Movement (FARRM) is a compassionate sanctuary near Wetaskiwin, Alberta, offering a safe haven for farm animals in need. Since 2013, FARRM has been dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and providing lifelong care for animals that have been abused or abandoned - challenging the traditional view of farm animals as mere commodities. With a heart rooted in the principles of kindness and respect, FARRM not only gives these animals a second chance but also invites others to join in creating a more ethical, compassionate world.

As FARRM’s reputation grows, so too does our ability to provide a safe haven for animals with special needs, many of whom have endured past traumas, neglect, or genetic conditions that make them more vulnerable. We hope that FARRM's residents help highlight that adverse life experiences are not limited to just humans, and that the ability to overcome trauma and neglect can be a universal experience.

We work with numerous local farms, and other organizations such as the SPCA, local county-run animal shelters, bylaw (animal control), Edmonton and area rescues, and the general public to place animals in need. We pride ourselves on not only educating the public, but also being a resource for those in need. We offer community assistance when approached by individuals who are struggling to provide veterinary care and/or require resources they would otherwise be without. We aim to assist pet owners whenever possible, with the goal being to have their family members remain in their home. Often pet owners are forced to surrender animals simply due to a lack of resources or limited financial access. Providing these resources can often be the difference that keeps an animal in a loving home.

We also have public programs and activities on site that provide educational opportunities for the public to learn about farm animals and their needs as well as educate on areas of animal welfare. As many people have never had the opportunity to interact with farm animals, FARRM provides an environment where they can do so safely. Through education, and hands-on experiences made possible by the sanctuary and its residents, FARRM hopes to inspire a movement toward greater empathy and responsibility for all living beings.
