The Mission of the Magalie Joachim Foundation
To accompany the families of Meyer, located in the southeast of the country, in their expressed desire to send their children to school by supporting them financially on the one hand and, on the other hand, by supporting their local initiatives and their small projects of sustainable development in order to promote their autonomy.
The school sponsorship of the youth of Meyer is the base of the Magalie Joachim Foundation project.
Established in 2008, at the request of many parents of Meyer for whom the school load was too heavy to bear, the Foundation decided to support families.
It is through the 'Antrèd Meyer' Association, made up of parents of children and other members of the community, that the initiative came into existence. Members of the Association have the responsibility to see to the proper functioning and monitoring of the sponsorship project. They are assisted in this task by volunteers who are on site. They perform the functions of Secretary and Councillors on the Board of Directors of the Association.
From the beginning of the development of sponsorship to the present project, nearly 50 children per year have been educated. Even if most godparents are faithful and regularly pay their contribution, the list of children waiting for sponsorship is very long since, due to lack of resources, the Magalie Joachim Foundation fails to significantly increase the number of beneficiaries.
Functioning of the school sponsorship system in Meyer (Southeast of Haiti)
Those who enlist as godparents pay the Foundation a monthly contribution of $ 25. To reduce transfer costs, the money is shipped to the location every other month.
It is "Antrèd Meyer" Association’s duty:
- to check the arrival of the money for each child;
- to make a report on the reception of payments to the Magalie Joachim Foundation and send the receipts corresponding to each money transfer ;
- To send the school reports of all sponsored children at the end of the school year (The Foundation sends them to the sponsors).
