The purpose of the Fort St John Hospital Auxiliary is to enhance the comfort and well being of the patients and residents of the Fort St John Hospital and Peace Villa. We achieve our mission by raising funds for the purchase of equipment as well as fostering caring and respectful relationships with the patients, residents, public and staff.
We are a non-profit volunteer society contributing over 3000+ hours annually of volunteer service to the Fort St. John Hospital and Peace Villa Residential Care facilities. We are a member of the BC Association of Healthcare Auxiliaries, attending conferences and leadership forums as part of our ongoing education commitment. The Auxiliary also meets and networks with Northeast Area Auxiliaries annually. Our major fundraising activities include operating a gift shop within the hospital, 4 vending machines throughout the facilities, and bottle recycling. These activities have allowed us to: - provide two (2) - 2K bursaries each year to graduating students pursuing an education in health care; - purchase, or contribute to the purchase of over $159,000 of benefitting equipment in the last 10 years; - coordinate the Junior Volunteer Program that encourages young people to socialize with the residents; - support patients, residents and staff by socializing with the patients and residents as well as assisting staff with special events. Examples include hosting an appreciation breakfast for all hospital workers (Feb 2022) and most recently, (Sep 2022) assisting in the hospital's 10th anniversary celebration in conjunction with the 90th anniversary of the Hospital Auxiliary (Est. 1932); - manage and maintain the Hospital Auxiliary Memorial Wall located in the cafeteria. It provides the community with the opportunity to make a donation in memory of a loved one and place their special name on the wall; and - manage and maintain the Memorial Rose Garden next to Peace Villa along the walking path. Family members can purchase an engraved brick in memory of a loved one. This site is also a relaxing and peaceful area for patients, residents and the public to spend time together, remembering loved ones and enjoying the outdoors.
