After a powerful earthquake rocked Haiti on August 14, killing thousands and inflicting widespread damage, our clients in the area are in urgent need of assistance. Please help if you can by rushing your immediate contribution to the Haiti - FINCA Canada Emergency Response Fund.

Many homes and other structures remain unsafe, especially with aftershocks still occurring. People are sleeping in the streets—a dangerous situation made much worse by Tropical Storm Grace hitting Haiti only a few days after the earthquake.We have confirmed that all FINCA staff survived, but a few sustained injuries, some lost family members, and many of their homes were damaged.

We are reaching out individually to each of our 5,000+ clients in the affected region to determine their situations and how we can help. Given the extensive building and infrastructure damage, we know that FINCA’s mobile banking is vital so people can access their finances and receive money during this critical time.

It will be some time before we can fully assess the impact of this disaster … how many lives may have been lost, how many were injured, how many were left homeless, how many saw their livelihoods destroyed.

But we know already the suffering and loss will be immense.

To help in the relief and recovery efforts for our staff, clients, and their families during this crisis, we need to raise $50,000 immediately, and I’m hoping we can count on you.

The people of Haiti have always met the toughest of challenges—from previous earthquakes and hurricanes to the COVID-19 pandemic and political violence, including this summer’s presidential assassination—with courage and determination.
