Free Korean Dogs rescues dogs from Korea’s dog meat trade and finds their loving forever homes in Canada.
Free Korean Dogs is a not-for-profit registered Canadian charity (BN:80580 0166RR0001) founded in Toronto on July 1st, 2015. We rescue dogs from Korea’s dog meat trade and find their forever-loving homes in Canada.
Millions of dogs are slaughtered for meat consumption in Korea every year. Most of them are kept in tiny, overcrowded cages in dog meat farms and provided no water or shelter from the elements, and given only scraps of waste to eat. It is also common practice for dogs to be brutally tortured prior to slaughter as it is believed to enhance flavor and nutritional healing properties, despite an overwhelming lack of evidence to support these claims.
Rescue, Adoption, and Public Awareness
Over the years, we have saved hundreds of dogs, rescuing them from the brutal dog meat trade and high-kill shelters in Korea. We have shut down three dog meat farm operations, setting free over 250 dogs from a life of suffering and despair. As of July 2023, our unwavering commitment to rescue and rehabilitation has resulted in over 1,500 dogs finding their forever homes in Canada and the US.
Our mission doesn’t end there. We promote public awareness to create a cultural shift from cruelty to compassion through education, campaigns, and events. By fostering a community of volunteers, partners, adopters, and supporters, we hope to improve welfare standards and quality of life so that one day all dogs and animals are afforded peaceful and happy lives.
