Friends for Life International

about

There is an incredible town in the Dominican Republic that you should visit. The town is called Yamasa and is an hour’s drive north of the capital city of Santo Domingo. There is no ocean or golf course in this place, just warm hearted Dominicans who have developed relationships with some crazy Canadians.

Roger Perry, a retired teacher from Pembroke, had been bringing students to the region for 20 years. Upon retirement he gathered a group of other parents who wanted to offer help to the Gray Sisters working in the area. The Sisters requested good Canadian medicine and help delivering the medicine to the most impoverished areas of the region.

Friends for Life began importing Canadian medicine through Health Partners Intl and funding local doctors to travel and treat the poor. Our good relationship in the area allowed us to expand our programs to include Mom and Baby educational programs, a Food program and Audiology services.

A young Canadian baseball team from Eastern Ontario recently visited the area. They didn't win a game but they were able to travel to areas of the country that had never received visiting teams. Their win was in their participation. The team started the Ben Wilson Memorial Baseball Fund that brings sporting equipment to the poor and encourages Dominican youth in sport.
