To provide rehabilitation,socialization,public education and creative employment strategies for people with a mental illness.
Our name, Friends of Music Society, was chosen to feature our members for their strengths and abilities rather than their illness.
About FRIENDS OF MUSIC SOCIETY
Established in 1989, the Friends of Music Society (FOM) is a non-profit organization that uses music as the basis for our partnership programs. We feature musicians with a mental illness working and playing in partnership with other musicians from the community. Our goal is to bring people together using music a a common bond, raising awareness of mental illness in our community.We offer a variety of musical opportunities for members to perform and practice together, to work and to socialize and entertain others. This is accomplished through day and evening programming as well as organized public concerts. FOM continues to provide work opportunities for members who face the daily challenges of serious and persistent mental illness. We have five ensembles; Moodswing Chorus, mixed voices Moodswing Orchestra a dance band format, Minds at Work which plays Rhythm and Blues, a daytime drop-in program and a coffee house style acoustic group called The Eclectics.
