about

Our Mission

We are on a mission to provide vital ostomy supplies to those in need throughout developing and war-torn countries, restoring the dignity of ostomates and improving their quality of life.

We aspire to create a more inclusive and empowered world for ostomates by bridging healthcare gaps and fostering resilience

FOWC is an entirely volunteer-run organization, led by our dedicated and expert Board of Directors – each member bringing unique perspective and experience to our work.

Over the past five years, we've delivered over 20,000 kg of ostomy supplies, valued at over $2.3M to partner organizations in five countries.

Meet Baby Mark!

  • Location: Rongai, Kenya (a few hours outside of Nairobi)
  • Age: 3 years old and loves preschool!
  • Family: He’s an only child.

Mark has spent most of his life with a stoma. He was diagnosed with Hirschsprung's disease just hours after his birth, unable to have a bowel movement for the first five days of life. This was an incredibly challenging time for his new family, navigating first-time parenthood with a very sick child.

At just two months old, Mark underwent surgery to get a temporary stoma. While the surgery was successful, unfortunately, the hospital could not provide the supplies they needed as they prepared to care for him at home. There is no post-discharge support available in Kenya and, as a result, they were advised to use diapers, which led to painful rashes and further complications.

In their search for help, they discovered the Kenya Ostomy Association. Sally, a dedicated champion with a stoma herself, arrived like a “heaven-sent” angel, as Mark’s mom, Catherine, describes her. Sally provided stoma bags, supplies, and invaluable guidance on proper care, bringing hope and relief to Mark’s family.

Thanks to this support, Mark’s rashes quickly healed, and he thrived. His bowls have since healed and he recently had his stoma reversed, causing immense joy to the family. Catherine shared, “We are eternally grateful to the Kenya Ostomy Association and FOWC. You’ve contributed to people like us in Kenya. You have a special place in our hearts… You are reaching people you’ve never seen or met. Please continue your incredible work, as you are truly helping.”
