Glyphosate – Strategic Briefing for Attorneys and Activists
Please join Friends of the Earth Canada and Canadian Environmental Law Association (CELA) on January 31 for a strategic briefing with California lawyers, Michael Baum and Brent Wisner, who are leading litigation against Monsanto in the U.S. Both were part of the legal team that represented 46-year-old Dewayne “Lee” Johnson, a former groundskeeper who used Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide, in his legal victory over Monsanto.
Through the legal “discovery” process, these lawyers raised the “curtain of secrecy” that typically shrouds ongoing litigation to expose manipulation of science, ghostwritten studies and suppression of findings of carcinogenicity of Roundup and its active ingredient glyphosate. They will talk about the key aspects of their case that “won the day” and spotlight key findings in their case that regulators and the concerned public should consider in addressing the registration and the extensive use of glyphosate in Canada.
Joseph Castrilli, Counsel, Canadian Environmental Law Association will address “Lessons for Canada” from this precedent setting U.S. case.
This briefing is particularly timely following the recent decision of the Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) to dismiss objections by Friends of the Earth and others to their 2017 re-registration of glyphosate for 15 years.
Lawyers and activists, please register today to join us at the offices of the Canadian Environmental Law Association on Thursday, January 31 for this strategic briefing.
