Canadian firefighters arrive on the scene of an emergency within minutes, with the skills and tools to manage the most challenging situations. That is not the case in many countries. Firefighters around the world struggle to provide emergency services simply because they lack the funding for essential training and equipment. GlobalFire exists to bridge that gap.
In January 2020, retired Toronto Fire Services Acting District Chief, Jack Turner, deployed with GlobalFire's sister charity, GlobalMedic, to the Philippines to support families affected by the eruption of the Taal Volcano. He teamed up with the local Trinity Volunteer Fire Department to distribute N95 masks, food, hygiene items and medicines to displaced families. While working alongside fellow Trinity firefighters, he witnessed their bravery and service to their community in the face of dangerous situations. Trinity's risk was increased because they lacked the budget to afford personal protective equipment to keep themselves safe while protecting their community.
GlobalMedic partnered with Trinity for a second time, following Typhoons Vamco and Goni to distribute hygiene kits, and provide Trinity with a rescue boat because of the extreme flooding. Now, GlobalFire is responding and we need your help! We want to raise $10,000 to help equip Trinity Volunteer Fire Department and their neighbouring fire departments with the gear they need to save lives. Trinity is fully staffed by unpaid volunteers who complete their training on their own time. All of their equipment and supplies are purchased with local donations, or is donated after being used by other fire departments. They have amazing support from the congested community in old Manila that they serve but they still lack essential gear to protect themselves and their community, including: SCBA and spare bottles (breathing apparatus), bunker suits, helmets, hose, hand tools and rescue tools. With your support, we can get the equipment and resources that the Trinity Fire Department needs to save lives!
All funds will be used to procure and ship fire and rescue gear collected by GlobalFire to support firefighters in the Philippines. Please donate today!
