On March 28, Myanmar experienced a magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck Myanmar, with the epicenter located near Mandalay City, Myanmar’s second largest city. Twelve minutes after the main quake, a Magnitude 6.4 earthquake occurred. UN-OCHA’s Humanitarian Update No. 45, released on the same day of the earthquake, reports that civilians in the country were already facing “continued violence and worsening humanitarian conditions amid daily challenges with food security, clean water and sanitation, health, shelter and education.
Good Neighbours made an initial emergency response in Myanmar and Thailand. Initial food, supplies, and mosquito netes have been distributed, but a large number of residents are still in fire need of food, drinking water, medical supplies, and shelter kits. Civilians in the area are already experience violence and worsening humanitarian conditions, and the recent calamity just further puts these vulnerably individuals in danger.
