On August 26, 2026, a sudden, high-velocity flash flood struck the Bhote Koshi River corridor in northern Rasuwa. The flood surge reportedly reached 8–10 metres, carrying large volumes of mud, debris, and boulders through border settlements and downstream into the Trishuli River basin. The disaster has severely affected Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, with downstream communities as far as Chitwan placed on high alert.

Initial figures from Nepal report 123 deaths, over 400 locals and travelers missing, and 75 injured. At least 80 bridges have washed away with infrastructure such as roads, hydropower projects, telecoms facilities and market villages suffering significant damage if not washed away entirely.

Estimates put the number of affected households at 10,000 - including over 50,000 individuals, 17,000 of which are children.

Search, rescue, and needs assessments are still ongoing, and numbers are expected to rise as verified information comes in.

Good Neighbors Nepal has already deployed field staff to the hardest-hit areas and begun providing initial survival relief - hygiene kits, kitchen sets, temporary shelter materials, and WASH support. The scale of damage means we will need expanded support to fund the response from immediate relief (food, water, shelter, and child protection/PSS support) through to longer-term recovery.
