Emergency Flood Relief for Mozambique

Recent severe flooding in southern Mozambique has affected thousands of people, forcing families to flee their homes and seek safety in temporary shelters. According to humanitarian situation reports, heavy rainfall and river overflow have caused widespread damage to homes, farmland, and community infrastructure, leaving many households without access to food or basic necessities (Source: ReliefWeb – Mozambique Floods 2026).

Good Neighbours Canada is partnering with Good Neighbors Mozambique and the Global Emergency ResponseTeam to respond in the flood-affected areas of Dzonguene and Chichongue. Immediately following the floods, assessments were conducted to understand the impact on sponsored children, their families, and surrounding communities. While the physical safety of sponsored children and their families has been confirmed, significant housing damage has been reported in Dzonguene, and many affected families and community members have been displaced to temporary shelters. The exact number of affected households is still being confirmed.

At this critical stage, our immediate priority is to provide emergency food assistance to families who have lost their homes and are currently residing in temporary shelters. Good Neighbours Canada is coordinating closely with Good Neighbors emergency response team to deliver food support to three identified shelter sites, while continuing to assess additional urgent needs.

Good Neighbours Canada will continue to closely monitor the evolving situation and develop a targeted emergency response plan for affected households. Sponsors will be informed should any further impacts be identified within our partner project areas.

We ask for your compassion and support for the children and communities in Mozambique who have been displaced by the flooding and are in urgent need of food and protection. Thank you for being a Good Neighbour and helping our communities in need around the world.
