OUR MISSION

The mission of Habitat for Humanity Mid-Vancouver Island is to build decent and affordable housing, enabling qualifying hard working families to achieve stable housing. By mobilizing volunteers and community partners in the building of affordable homes, we aim to break the cycle of poverty.

ABOUT HABITAT FOR HUMANITY MID-VANCOUVER ISLAND

At Habitat for Humanity Mid-Vancouver Island, we strive to bring communities together to help families build strength, stability and independence through affordable housing. Founded in Nanaimo in 1994, we serve the Mid-Island area from Mill Bay to Ucluelet. To date, we have built 31 homes, renovated 3 homes, and served 34 families in Parksville, Ladysmith, and Nanaimo. We have just announced the Vancouver Island's largest multi-unit build in Nanaimo, allowing us to serve a broader range of individuals and families in need. 

In recent years, Vancouver Island has experienced increasing land prices that have inflated it beyond reach for many families. Decent housing is becoming increasingly difficult for lower income families, they simply cannot afford the rents that are being charged and often are forced to live in deplorable conditions. Homeownership for most of these families is only a dream – virtually unfathomable.

We believe in a hand up, not a hand out.

Our ability to supply decent, low-cost homes for these families depends on the support of the community and donors like you. Donations of time, land, money – and even building supplies – build homes, and build hope.
