Influencing a transformative social impact in our local community is important to us. Through volunteer labour, efficient management and tax-deductible donations of money and materials, Habitat for Humanity builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses with the help of homeowner (partner) families. Habitat for Humanity homes are sold to partner families with no cash down payment required and are financed with a Habitat mortgage. Mortgage payments go into a revolving fund, which is used by affiliates to build more homes for more families in need.

Since 1992, Habitat for Humanity Okanagan (HFHO) has brought Okanagan communities together to help families build strength, stability, and independence though affordable housing. HFHO’s vision is a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. We value inclusivity and diversity, partnership, and human dignity.

HFHO believes stable housing provides strength and stability for families. With the help of volunteers and generous donors, HFHO builds decent and affordable homes that provide a solid foundation for people to build better, healthier lives in the Okanagan. Habitat owners volunteer up to 500 hours and pay a Habitat affordable mortgage – geared to their incomes – to buy their home. The affordable mortgage payments go into a revolving fund that allows HFHO to build more homes and provide more people with affordable housing opportunities. Affordable housing helps to bridge the gap between social housing and rental housing with market housing. Because the gap is too big for families to manage on their own, Habitat is the bridge that makes it possible. Affordable housing helps break the cycle of housing insecurity and instability.
