The Hackmatack Children’s Choice Book Award program promotes literacy and empowers children by letting them choose the winner of this prestigious book award. The reading program is designed for children in grades four to six (ages 8 to 12) in the four Atlantic provinces. Each year, the Hackmatack selection committees carefully review new children’s books written and published in Canada and select 40 titles--ten English fiction, ten English nonfiction, ten French fiction, and ten French nonfiction--that will appeal to a wide range of readers. Over the course of the school year, children in registered groups read these great Canadian books, and in the spring they vote for the one title in each category that they feel should win the Hackmatack Children's Choice Book Award, which celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2024.
