About This Charity

At the heart of the Halifax Jazz Festival’s vision is the belief that jazz is a perpetually innovative and historically rich art form that has the power to impact society in meaningful and transformative ways.

Our programs aim to demonstrate the art form’s relevance in today’s world and give it significance in people’s lives. We provide opportunities for the genre and its practitioners to continue to evolve and absorb influences from contemporary cultures and musical traditions as they always have done. The Halifax Jazz Festival’s activity is guided by the value of community and community development, whether that be a community of artists, students and teachers, volunteers, fellow arts presenters or the international music community.

The TD Halifax Jazz Festival is our most ambitious and diverse production, featuring both international and Canadian performers. The festival hires up to 400 musicians from the Maritime region. It represents 9 days of concerts and educational workshops, 4 months of concentrated marketing activities and reaches over 50,000 culture consumers. The TD Halifax Jazz Festival is a highly regarded event in local, national and international music communities and is proud of its status as a signature event in the province of Nova Scotia.

About Our Charity

The Halifax Jazz Festival/JazzEast Rising is a non-profit organization formed in 1987 to present the first ever Atlantic Jazz Festival in Halifax. Over the past 28 years, the Halifax Jazz Festival has widened its horizons beyond the successful TD Canada Trust Atlantic Jazz Festival to become involved, throughout the year, in a diverse range of musical and educational activities.

Not just an organization, the Halifax Jazz Festival is a community. We are over 500 active volunteers, 200 members, 270+ local and regional jazz artists, a team of corporate and government partners and an audience that has surpassed the 65,000 mark.
