Hand Up Toronto provides communities and families with care packages, which typically consist of a meal, nutritional supplements, and hygiene necessities. Hand Up from Hunger Toronto employs a mobile strategy that identifies communities in need and proactively responds to emerging challenges within local communities across the GTA.
We are a mobile service that strategically targets priority areas and travels directly there. Many food banks are not in close proximity to many priority neighborhoods, thus making it difficult for families to make the trip.. That stops now.
Mission Statement
We are here providing a hand up to those in need within the Greater Toronto area. As an organization, we focus on areas where individuals lack the capability to acquire proper nutrition and other basic necessities We will go to those areas that require a hand up, providing ready made meals, nutritional supplements and hygiene necessities. We will work with communities to nurture those in need of support. Our ultimate goal is to create a society without hunger.
Current Initiative - Family Support Program
The Family Support Program is our commitment to deliver Emergency Food Hampers (Feed the Six Kits) to a group of 260 families identified as severely food insecure 2 times a month over the course of 6 months. We match a group of families with a volunteer driver that will consistently serve them.
Past Initiative - Hand Up for Kids/Feed the Six
Hand Up for Kids/Feed the Six is a food essentials pickup and delivery service created in response to the COVID-19 impacts on the greater Toronto community, aimed towards alleviating food insecurity. We are partnering with Global Medic and providing meal kits that includes a care package of goods - which includes grains, fruit, snacks, and more - to provide families relief, who have been affected by the pandemic.
