Love Your Library

What do you Love about Your Library?

Hanover Public Library (HPL) is a single branch location run by a staff of 12.  We serve a town of 8000 people and the surrounding rural community members.  Since 1906, the Hanover Public Library has been an integral part of our community.

The need for local public libraries has never been as important as it is today. Our library board and staff team are working hard together to provide exceptional library experiences to everyone who uses our services.  Public libraries are a strong bastion of democracy; the free sharing of ideas and information in a judgment free environment is the core of our ideals.  Today’s libraries strengthen communities and transform lives everyday. Beyond well-loved books, today’s libraries offer innovative programs that promote lifelong learning, connect patrons to technology, and advance knowledge. They are warm and welcoming spaces that provide a remarkably broad array of critical supports for our communities, including for knowledge distribution, culture, health and a sense of belonging.

HPL Vision: Your library, your destination to discover and uncover life’s possibilities.

HPL Mission Statement: To be a welcoming upbeat community hub, enhancing the quality of life for all, empowering everyone to reach their potential through access to resources and activities for relaxation and lifelong learning.

Support the Love Your Library Campaign.  We are planning to unveil a variety of new programs this year and are raising money to help support our adult programming. We can't wait for you to come into the library to find out what we have in store.

In response to our community survey, we are introducing many new programs to help our community and live by our mission statement.  Coming this year we will  be starting the following initiatives:

Clean & Green:  This program is designed to help people focus on the environment and their own well being.  In response to the pandemic, society has shifted its ideals towards more natural solutions. We are partnering with local experts on health and wellbeing, as well as holistic practitioners to help our community get back to nature.

Adulting: Do you feel like you missed out on an important skill at school? Why not learn it at the library?  This program is for new and seasoned adults to learn things that people should know but didn't get taught.  Programs will include budgeting, taxes, job skills, mental health and more.

Older & Wiser:  This program is geared to adults who have become wiser through experience. Subjects such as keeping your mind sharp, palliative care, elder abuse and senior nutrition are a few areas we will explore here at the Library.

Memory Lane, Adult Storytime: A program for those experiencing memory loss and their caregivers. An opportunity to come together for a readaloud followed by an activity.

Seed Library:  We are introducing a seed library that allows members of the public to take up to 5 packets of seeds home to plant in their garden.  To continue the availability of seeds the library will accept the unused, dry, seeds in their original packaging to be distributed again.  Along with the introduction of the seed library we will be providing seed workshops for both adults and kids and other programs from local gardeners and garden masters!  Seed libraries are an initiative that helps prevent food insecurity in communities and is a group effort to help create a sharing, resourceful and beautiful place to live. We think it is important to help our community members during tough economic times.  By providing this resource we hope to help people learn how to grow their own food and ease some of that economic burden.

The Hanover Public Library is a registered charity so donations above $10 are eligible for a tax receipt. A donation of any amount can make a big impact in our community.

What can we do with your donation?

$15 will buy 3 packages of seeds for our seed library

$35 will buy 1 book to support a specialized program

$50 will buy materials for 1 activity bundle

$100 will cover the cost for a local presenter

At the Hanover Public Library we strive to be a welcoming community hub.  We are here for you with the programs you want to see.  Do you have a suggestion? Let us know.  Along with your donation we would love for you to send us an e-card about what you love about your library.  Thank you for your generous contribution to help the library reach our full potential.  It is through your selfless support that we are able to offer exciting and trending programs.

Thanks for being a library champion!

With sincere gratitude from the Hanover Public Library CEO, Carolyn Caskanette and all of the Library Staff and Library Board members.
